What is Affiliate Marketing?

Make Money OnlineAffiliate marketing is many things. Affiliate marketing can provide the necessary tools for the creative and hardworking individual to venture out on their own. Affiliate marketing can provide the opportunity to earn money doing what you are good at. Affiliate marketing can allow someone to use their skills and expertise for there own financial gain, rather than the financial gain of another person or entity. Finally, Affiliate marketing can get people started in their own business enterprises with nearly no cost or risk to themselves.

Affiliate marketing can do all of those things and more. First, Affiliate marketing is perfect for the independent hardworking individual. Many of us are stuck in day to day jobs. We work incredibly hard and receive little reward. There is nearly no incentive to work harder. When you work in the field of affiliate marketing, the world is your oyster. You paid by your performance so the harder you work, generally the better of you'll be. When you work as an affiliate, you are working as a representative of another company. However, your reward is directly linked with what you produce. If you're someone who frequently gets good results at work then this could be a great opportunity for you.

Next Affiliate marketing can provide the opportunity to earn money by doing something that you are good at. Those that have a knack for sales and marketing are perfect for affiliate marketing. Those that are creative and used to hard work can also make an excellent living. Your skills will be used to work for you. If you have a natural knack for these kinds of projects then why not have them increase your bank balance and not someone else's? As an affiliate, anything that you do to increase sales or traffic if it is internet based will benefit you and you directly. The company won't get rich while you say poor. You're the one who will reap the rewards.

Finally, Affiliate marketing can get someone started in their own business at nearly no cost or risk to themselves. Many of us would love to work for ourselves. The two main reasons why we don't are money and risk. You need a decent amount of capital to start even a small business. The risk involved is also tremendous with more than half of small businesses failing in the first year. Affiliate marketing can get you started working for yourself. They handle all of the products and advertising and you just concentrate on selling. If yours is an internet based program, you concentrate on increasing traffic. Most of these programs are free or involve very low initial start up costs. You're paid according to how well you do regardless of how the company is performing.

If you have dreamed of working for yourself then affiliate marketing can be your dream come true. You can make money based on your hard work. You are the one rewarded for your efforts, not a boss or a group of shareholders. You don't have to worry about financial risk. The head company will take care of all the detail allowing you to use your skills to the best of your ability. If you're creative, hardworking and want to be your own boss, consider the world of affiliate marketing. Your skills and expertise could be increasing your bank balance, not someone else's.

Why Losing Weight Is Like Groundhog Day

For most winters in New Jersey, it doesn't matter whether Punxsatawney Phil sees his shadow or not… After being dumped on with snow and braving bitter cold temperatures, and the ever-so-despised ice storms, with sidewalks of slush and streets as slick as skating rinks, it usually seems like winter will never end! And they call this place the Garden State? Anyway, I remember reading a news story about the Famous Pennsylvania groundhog, and that got me thinking… For most people, weight loss is a lot like groundhog day…

Why Weight Loss Is a Lot Like Groundhog Day

Before I became a full time author/writer and online publisher, I used to work in health clubs. For 14 years, I was a trainer and gym manager, and every January, there was a huge influx of new members.

Unfortunately, most of them were GONE by February! I swear this is not "urban legend," it's absolutely true – I used to print out the attendance records to prove it!

The attendance spike in January and the subsequent dip in February were unbelievable. So much for new year's resolutions.

Did you ever think about what the word "resolution" implies? If you look at the roots of the word, it comes from "resolute" which means a firm determination.

But here's something that most people – outside of the hypnosis or NLP fields – rarely consider: words carry certain associations and ambiguities, not necessarily related to their latin roots.

What I find ironic is that if you sound it out, "resolve" sounds like "RE-solve" as in: to solve the SAME problem again and again, and again and again.

Did you ever see that movie (1993), Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, where he wakes up every morning only to re-live the same day over and over again?

Well, for most people, this time of year is like "Groundhog Day for weight loss" – re-living that same 20 pound weight loss from past years, over and over and over again!

What could be more frustrating?

This year, isn't it finally time to stop that madness?

You can make it stick this year – all year – and keep your progress steamrolling forward for life… an unstoppable YOU. It simply takes a different approach…

Forget the old approach:

This is the new, superior approach:

People know that their resolutions won't stick, but rather than learning the art of setting real goals, they make resolutions again every year anyway.

They pursue the latest, trendiest, newest diet or workout fad instead of working on the admittedly boring, but effective fundamentals and proven principles.

They're focused only on quick results without a long term mindset of lifestyle change.

And… they're so caught up in the scale, that all they care about is how much weight they lose, not their all-important body composition (the muscle to fat ratio).

Thus, with the old approach:

———————————————————————————
INSANITY: Continuing to do the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result.
———————————————————————————

If you want to make a real change and make the change stick, it's time to change your approach.

A lot of people are talking lately about my "49- day body transformation" promise. Some people said, "49-days? Oh no! Has Tom started going the quick fix route like all the others?

Nothing could be further from the truth.

My fat-burning program, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle IS THE NEW APPROACH, not the old one, and there's nothing "quick fixy" about it.

With the results of one of our body transformation challenge contest just published, we have simply proven that you can use this approach to begin seeing extraordinary results in as little as 49 days (And we have the success stories and photos to prove it).

After 49 days, YOU DON'T STOP. That was just a short-term goal! You keep going – and it just gets better and better. You can keep using the program until you reach your long term goal, and you can keep using it to maintain your ideal weight for life.

Quick fix diets can't promise you that.

Here's the Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle difference:

Less Time Equals Better Results?

Why is it that almost everyone you see working out in the gym does high volume bodypart splits? Today is Monday and in just about every gym in America that means it's chest day. Tomorrow is back, Thursday is legs and Friday is arms…or something like that, I guess.

Why the lack of variety or rational thought? What is the need for all that training volume?

You need to understand that most forms of training have just been passed down for decades from one generation to the next, without the inclusion of rational thought. Sometime in the 60's, sensible training programs started becoming less and less prevalent with the rapidly growing usage of anabolic steroids.

In the days of old, men like Steve Reeves and Paul Anderson trained with far more sensible, lower volume programs but these started to disappear during the 60's. By the time Arnold got to Gold's Gym in Venice for the first time, high volume, bodypart splits were the widely accepted way for everyone to train for size and strength.

This type of training is not based on deductive reasoning but just on the fact that "it's what everyone else is doing." The proponents of these training methods will always blindly tell you that "higher volume training is needed for hypertrophy gains." Says who? I can tell you for a fact that the University of Chicago isn't wasting time examining the effects of Jay Cutler's marathon workouts. There are no studies saying that you need 8-12 sets per bodypart to grow. In fact there are studies that show the opposite; that one set is just as effective as three.

The proponents of this type of training will also tell you that higher volume training is associated with higher levels of growth hormone secretion. What they don't tell you is that the level of GH increase is not enough to make any difference at all. In fact, almost anything you do elevates GH. Extreme temperatures elevate GH but my biceps don't get bigger every time I take a shower. The increased GH secretion from training is so minimal that it is not enough to make the slightest difference whatsoever.
Animated Banner
For the drug free lifter who does not possess muscle building genetics quite up to par with the Austrian Oak, training this way is a huge mistake. Not only does it drain your amino acid pool and glycogen stores but it dramatically enhances your recovery time between workouts. If you do 8-12 sets for chest on Monday you can not recover from that workout and be able to train again for seven days. So you are only getting one growth stimulus per week or fifty two per year. Now if you reduce your volume to the point where you can recover faster and more efficiently without draining your amino acid pool and glycogen stores so greatly, you can train bodyparts twice per week instead of once. Now instead of 52 growth stimulating workouts per year for each bodypart, you can now do 104. In fact, if your volume is kept low you can even get away with training bodyparts three times a week in certain situations. Now, which do you think will be more effective; 156 growth stimulating workouts per year or 52?

To train more often you absolutely have to lower your training volume. The total sets per workout should be kept low and the total sets per exercise should be even lower. There is no need to hit four sets of incline presses, flat bench presses and decline presses for your chest workout. Doing that is a form of neuroses; you think that you need to hit every angle and do and endless amount of sets to stimulate every last muscle fiber, but this is simply not the case.

The reason these training programs remain popular is because nobody wants to be told that they are wrong. Admitting your mistakes is something many people can't do. It is why when something radically different is proposed, the high volume proponents get upset and offended. Nobody likes to have their ego bruised so they keep on doing and promoting the same old high volume workouts that they always have.

That's fine, let them continue to do what they choose; personally I have way more important things to do than spend all of my waking hours in the gym. If I can get better results in a fraction of the time I will choose that option every time.

Cut your volume down, up your weights and intensity and get ready for the "what are you on" questions to start rolling in.

Inflammation: What it is and what you can do about it

The human body has a truly amazing ability to heal. When an injury occurs, our internal repair mechanisms spring into action to repair the damage. The body heals itself as part of normal, everyday living without any special effort on our part—it's completely automatic. A lot of healing takes place without us ever being aware of what's happening. But other times, we do know that healing is taking place because we see and feel the symptoms.

For example, pull a muscle or tear a ligament and you will know that healing is going on because you'll see and feel it—usually because of inflammation. When an infection or injury happens, the body produces a reaction called inflammation, which is characterized by swelling, heat, redness, and pain. Inflammation is the result of the body's immune system directing healing resources to the site of the injury or infection. The process includes increased blood flow with an influx of white blood cells and other substances that facilitate healing. Without inflammation wounds, injuries and infections would never heal.

There are three parts to inflammation:

1) increased blood supply to the affected area;

2) increased permeability of the small blood vessels permitting large molecules to leave the bloodstream and reach the infection; and

3) increased migration of phagocytes toward the site of infection. Phagocytes are white blood cells that protect us by ingesting harmful foreign particles, bacteria and even dead or dying cells. All this action going on causes the affected area to look red, swell up and feel hot and painful.

For most of us, inflammation is normally not a problem with it lasting just a short time. But sometimes, inflammation is prolonged and doesn't seem to go away. Prolonged inflammation can lead to chronic inflammation, a condition that can result in a progressive shift in the type of cells present at the site of inflammation. Chronic inflammation is characterized by the simultaneous destruction and healing of the tissue from the inflammatory process.

Of particular concern to bodybuilders, weight lifters or men just trying to get fit, is the fact that chronic inflammation slows down and disrupts metabolic processes that are critical to building lean muscle mass and burning fat. In particular, chronic inflammation can disrupt the anabolic signals that initiate muscle growth. In addition, it can also lead to serious health problems, including a host of diseases such as hay fever, atherosclerosis (clogged arteries), or rheumatoid arthritis. Some experts say that chronic inflammation can also increase your risk of contracting certain types of cancer.

inflammation can also increase your risk of contracting certain types of cancer

In a small percentage of cases chronic inflammation is the result of a legitimate medical condition that must be treated by a medical professional. However, for the majority of men, the onset of chronic inflammation can be linked to one particular cause–an unhealthy lifestyle. By this I mean poor diet, lack of stress management skills, not getting enough sleep, smoking, excessive drinking or insufficient exercise. All of these can diminish our bodies' ability to manage inflammation.

The good news is that there are steps you can take to improve your body's healing ability and reduce or eliminate chronic inflammation. First, if any of the lifestyle conditions above apply to you, then take steps to address the issue or issues right away. But even if you do lead a healthy lifestyle there are still things you can do to enhance your body's inflammation fighting capabilities. Here are five action steps you can take to improve your body's ability to manage inflammation:

Making sure that you are taking these five simple action steps will not only help you're your body in good working order, but it can also minimize your susceptibility to chronic inflammation. And by minimizing chronic inflammation, you improve your capacity to build muscle and burn fat.

Quinoa And An Alkaline Diet

We all know we need to have a balanced diet in these modern times, but fewer of us realise the benefits of Alkaline foods as opposed to Acidic foods. Until recently, I didn't know anything about this subject or it's importance. Then I came across references to work done on Acid Alkaline by Herman Alihara. This set me searching and I discovered that the balance of Acid and Alkaline is vital to our well being.

There are some quite incredible claims that imbalance can make the difference to our emotional highs and lows as well as our physical health. It brings a whole new meaning to ideas that what we eat or drink affects who we are and who we become…

Apparently, it is to do with the way our bodies process foods and drinks that we have on a day to day basis. They are digested and converted into energy and used by our bodies. Most energies are passed around our bodies by our blood system and this is the important bit. Our blood PH level needs to be slightly alkaline (7.35 to 7.45). If it drops below 7 (which is neutral) then it becomes acidic (low in Oxygen) and we are exposed to symptoms and disease. It makes us more prone to stress and we find it harder to lose weight and stay positive and healthy. Our bodies will do everything they can to maintain a healthy PH level but that can lead to problems as it tries to get rid of the extra Acid as best it can.

Unfortunately, our modern western diet is mostly made up of acid forming foods (proteins, cereals, and sugars) rather than the alkaline range of foods (vegetables, etc). We obviously need protein but we need to balance them with alkaline foods so that we get the best nutritional benefit from them. Interestingly, stimulants like coffee, tea, alcohol and tobacco are very acidic. Even Stress and too little or too much physical activity can add to the acidic problems too.

We really need to look at our day to day intake and try to move more towards alkaline foods and drinks. There is a big move to "home-cooking" but also a more practical approach that we consider easier and quicker methods of food preparation. Gone are the days when we had hours if not days to prepare foods for us and our families to consume. We need to update our methods of cooking, our range of food choices and spend our time economically in the kitchen. Stir fries are very quick and nutritious as are some home made biscuits and cakes. This means looking at the health benefits of foods such as Quinoa which is a grain/seed that is a complete protein, has all the amino acids, has iron, has fibre, and can be cooked in all sorts of ways as seen in The Quinoa Cookbook.

We've had various changes in our working world with improved methods of manufacture and business ideas. Perhaps the next major development needs to be sharing our different ways of cooking wholesome foods. We've had the re-discovery of Vitamins, Fibre, re-ducing salt, perhaps we should look at food as a friend to use wisely and help ward off many of our modern ailments like depression, stress, diabetes, obesity, etc.

Quinoa is a brilliant food. It is versatile and can be used in soups, salads, to thicken stir-fries, an option to rice, in fact there does not seem to be a limit to this very versatile food. It's origins are the West Andes Mountains of South America, but it is destined for world wide use.

It is like a seed but like a grain too. It is not a grass and so avoids the allergic connections of grass. It is rinsed in water and cooked in a similar way to rice but not for so long. It is quite easy to cook and can be seen demonstrated on u-tube. Even the leaves can be used on salads or cooked like spinach.

It has another benefit in that it is an alkaline food. This means that it helps the blood to keep a healthy PH level. This is essential for good health.

The PH level of blood is important as the more alkaline the easier our bodies find it to absorb all the vitamins and nutrients in our food. It also helps the body to function well and avoid illnesses. Another benefit is that it helps the body to maintain a good weight. It is even a key to loosing weight as if the blood ph level is too acidic (i.e. below 7 and lacking in oxygen) then it struggles to lose weight and control our stress levels. With regard to the sugar levels in the body as it is what is known as a slow release food, which means we don't have the "sugar fix" that some foods have and we maintain a more even energy and stamina level.

The Glycemic Index: What’s the Big Deal?

The Glycemic Index ranks foods on how they affect the blood glucose levels. It measures the amount of increase in your blood glucose levels two to three hours after eating.
The Glycemic Index shows how quickly a single food will turn into blood glucose on a scale of 100. Pure glucose is given a value of 100.
The Glycemic Index was created with the diabetic in mind.
You see, insulin spikes can be deadly to the diabetic. This fueled the need to develop a chart showing the insulin effects of certain foods. Clearly diabetics don't want large spikes in insulin when preparing meals.
Before 1981, scientists believed that avoiding table sugar was the goal as it raised the glucose levels quickly. Current studies show that some foods actually have a higher blood glucose level than table sugars!
While it's still a good idea to avoid empty sugar calories there's many other foods that can spike the blood glucose levels.
Clearly not all foods are the same and they don't have the same insulin effects on the body. Today it's still favored to have a diet high in carbs and fibers and to avoid sugars.
Now get this: A baked potato ranks higher on the Glycemic Index than table sugar at 64! While some pastas rank lower than a baked potato and even table sugars.
But that's not all…
You can see it's value to a diabetic but using the Glycemic Index as a primary tool for choosing food can create problems.
First…
As you know, the Glycemix Index ranks how a single food breaks down in your body and is convered to blood glucose after eating. But if you follow the rules of performance nutrition, you should be eating a 'complete' meal:
* that consists of a lean protein
* a starchy carbohydrate
* and a fibrous carbohydrate
Not a single food by itself.
This changes the Glycemix Index of that meal!
Second…
When you consume proteins with carbohydrates, it can greatly lower the blood glucose effects of that food. A baked potato's score 85 on the Glycemic Index when combined with a protein is much lower.
Third…
There are flaws of the Glycemic Index like:
* Limited data. Only about 5% of the foods are listed in the Glycemic Index. And there is a very limited number of researchers that currently do testing.
* The numbers on the Glycemix Index are an average of the responses of groups of people. This explains the variation in some charts. The numbers listed are not exact values.
* A wide variation of in the actual Glycemic Index measurements. For example, a baked Russet potatoes have been tested with a Glycemic Index as low as 56 and as high as 111!
* Food preparation methods like microwaving, grinding, frying, baking, etc. There's even differences in the GI when boiling pasta for 10 minutes or 15 minutes.
* Food combinations can affect the Glycemic Index of a listed food. While the Glycemic Index is based on single foods, we often consume foods in combinations. This can affect the overall Glycemic Index of that meal. Figuring out the precise Glycemic Index of foods after being mixed is less accurate.
* Individual differences in a response to a food on the Glycemic Index. People simply have different blood glucose responses. Without monitoring each person's actual blood glucose levels, results can and often will vary.
* Reliance on the Glycemic Index can lead to over eating. If you only rely on the Glycemic Index to pick and choose foods you can end up consuming too many fats and excess calories.
In any event, the Glycemic Index is useful to people with certain dietary needs. But it's service to the bodybuilder is vague. There's no way that refined pasta is better for you than nature's own potato.
Basing your choices only on the Glycemic Index can lead to over consumption of high calorie foods. And with the limited data and varied testing results, your own reactions to a particular food may vary greatly.
Needless to say…
If you follow the rules of performance nutrition and eat complete meals your goals will be much better served.

Some Advice For Those Who Want To Become Affiliates

Make Money OnlineToday, many of us are growing increasingly tired of the workplace and the daily grind. We are continually overworked and undervalued. Working a traditional job offers very little incentive to produce more. The vast majority of us pare paid a wage with very little movement for increases.

Increasing numbers of us want to work for ourselves but this requires money and a great deal of risk. Starting your own business is a risky venture and it may be years before any significant profit is seen. Most of us can't wait that long as our financial obligations need to be met immediately.

To bridge this gap, some are turning to the field of affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing allows you to work for yourself. Instead of creating your own business, you working to expand an already existing one. This keeps the risk factor and investment low so you can concentrate on how to make profits.

Many think it sounds easy. Certain aspects of affiliate marketing make it very attractive but it isn't easy at all. There are steps and loads of advice you should follow before plunging head first into and affiliate marketing scheme.

The first thing you should do before committing to an affiliate marketing scheme is to evaluate your skills and expertise. How motivated are you? How many hours are you willing to put in? What business skills do you already have and what skills do you need? Even though the risk is minimal, you want to make the most of the venture. You will need some business and sales skills. If you have none then you need to learn. There are very few products that sell themselves. If they did the company wouldn't need you to do it for them. You profit will be based on your performance. If you can't perform then your venture will struggle.

The next thing you should consider is a product themselves. You should find something that you know something about. That way you sound much more sincere when you are marketing them. However, you also need to look into how salable they are. You may have loads of knowledge about a particular area but if it isn't something that sells it will be useless. Find out from the company how well these items sell. How much of a return you can reasonably expect. Don't let them dazzle you with the sky is the limit speech, or one of our salesmen hit the million dollar mark. You need to know what you are likely to achieve.

Finally, you need to have realistic expectations. One of the reasons that many work at home ventures fail is that people want instant results. Running a business of any type takes time and hard work. With affiliate marketing your will get out only what you put in. with patience and hard work it will be lucrative. Learn what is realistic and shoot for that. If you make more then great.

Affiliate marketing is a fantastic way to start in your own business. If you're self motivated and independent then this fields could be an excellent choice. Before you jump in, research the company. Look up the salability of the products and ask for reasonable projections. Base your goals on these and build from there. With patience and hard work you will make a success of affiliate marketing.

The Best Diet Plan is NO Diet at all

As a nutritionist, the most common question I get daily is "What is the Best Diet to follow?"  My answer is always the same and one that shocks many people.  "The best diet to follow is to follow NO diet at all."  How could any nutritionist wanting to promote health tell you not to follow a diet?"Easy.  I'm here to tell you that diets do not work.  They are one of the most common reasons people have such a hard time losing weight.  People are making the mistake of following a diet instead of following a delicious way of eating that will satisfy their hunger, their taste buds and help them reach and maintain an optimum weight and optimum health.

With all of the junk food, false advertising, and false information out in the world today, how is this even possible?  A delicious way of eating healthy that will help me lose weight at the same time?

Yes, this is possible for you once you are armed with the correct information.

The best diet is going to be one that you can stick to (for more than just a week), one that includes delicious food and one you are happy with, not to mention one that you can maintain for a lifetime.

Here are a few tips that will help you develop the Best Diet for you:

1.  Only eat food you enjoy.

Well Isabel, that would be just great, but I enjoy pizza and donuts and that sure doesn't seem to be helping me lose weight.  Yes, I agree.  What I mean here is don't establish a crash diet of cottage cheese and grapefruit if you absolutely hate those 2 foods.  Healthy food does not have to be akin to bird seed.  How about scrambled whole eggs in butter with your favorite vegetables and 2 slices of sprouted grain toast?  French toast made from healthy bread, and eggs?   A juicy hamburger or steak for lunch or dinner?  How about making your own pizza from healthy ingredients?  I could go on and on with a long list of delicious foods. The point is you do not have to eat like a bird or eat tasteless food to be healthy and lose weight.  Find the healthy foods you enjoy and get creative with those.  You will find you will have an incredible amount of delicious food options.

2.  Do not go cold turkey.

Rome wasn't built in a day right?  You do not have to change every single one of your habits overnight.  Establishing one healthy eating habit each week or eliminate one "not so good" food every week.  This will prove to be life changing in just 1-2 months.  Not to mention it will eliminate any stress or anxiety you may have over changing all of your habits overnight.  Start with the easiest one for you.  How about drinking water?  Can you replace your sugar drinks with water and just do that for one week?  How about just cutting down on a few sodas and replacing them with water?  One small step each week will make your transition simple and easy.

3.  Do not go hungry.

Another very common mistake I see is people starving themselves in an effort to lose weight quickly.  The truth is you do not need to feel hunger in order to effectively lose weight.  Actually, the contrary is true.  You must give your body enough nourishment (good nourishment, that is) in order to see weight loss results.  Make sure to feed your body consistently throughout the day.  Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all important but so are snacks in between.  Munching on things like raw nuts, fresh fruits and healthy trail mixes can really keep you from experiencing any hunger throughout the day and help control any cravings that may come up.

Find out how you too can eat delicious food and still lose weight with these AMAZING Fat Loss Tips

Remember that the Best Diet you can begin today is an eating plan that does NOT resemble a diet at all.  Tell people you had French toast for breakfast, chicken stir fry for lunch and a juicy steak with potatoes for dinner and they will wonder how in the world you are losing weight and looking great.   Easy, I stopped dieting and found the Best Diet for me!

You too can have consistent weight loss starting right now!
Just follow these 3 simple principles << Find out here.

The Hidden Health Hazards of Grilling And Barbecuing

Many people enjoy a tender grilled chicken breast, sirloin steak, or filet of fish, and nothing says summer quite like a good old fashioned barbecue. But if you aren't careful, a summer of enjoying barbecued cuisine can prove deadly to your health.

It has been well documented that undercooking meat can cause a variety of food borne diseases. But it's now apparent that overcooking can be just as bad, if not worse, as studies reveal that it can cause cancer.

The true culprit is charred meat, the portion of the meat that's essentially turned into charcoal due to overheating. Scientists found that charred meat produces a compound called PhIP, which has been shown to cause various types of cancers in rats.

The findings were revealed at a conference for the American Association for Cancer Research in April, wherein they showed that when PhIP was mixed in with rats' food, their spleens, prostates and intestines underwent cancerous genetic mutations after four weeks.

If this isn't bad enough, other evidence suggests that PhIP isn't the only malignant compound that's produced when meat is charred. Another compound called heterocyclic amines, or HCAs, can increase the risk of various cancers in humans, including prostate, colon, stomach and breast cancer.

Yet another compound worthy of concern is called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs. PAHs form when fats from chicken, steak and types of fish are re-deposited onto the barbecued slab, due to the high heat and smoke brewing from the hibachi, after the fatty oils have dripped on the hot coals below.

So, do findings like this mean you should swear off barbecuing forever? Certainly not. And even if it did, it's not likely that the thousands of Americans who barbecue regularly even would. However, caution can and should be taken when eating and preparing for a barbecue:

Get the Grill Goin'—If you haven't used the grill for awhile, its best to give it a good clean by turning up the heat to high and closing the lid for about 10 minutes. This will remove the caked oil and grease from past grilling

Cut the Fat—Not only does trimming the fat off meat reduce saturated fat content, it also greatly reduces the likelihood of PAH compounds forming

Remove Charred Meat Portions from the Meat Before Serving or Eating

Marinade Meat—Marinating does mean extra preparation, but scientists believe that the ingredients in marinades act as a sort of shield for the meat, reducing the chances of carcinogenic compounds forming significantly

Wash Your Hands—This is common sense, but cleaning your hands thoroughly—for at least 20 seconds—is essential when handling raw meat

Avoid Cross Contamination—The easiest way to avoid this is to use two different plates when handling food: One plate for raw meat, another plate for cooked meats. The same standard should apply for cutting raw and cooked meat products (i.e. different utensils and cutting boards)

Pre-cook Meats—Boiling chicken wings or heating up pieces of swordfish or steak in the oven prior to grilling is a great way to ensure it's fully cooked

Flip Frequently—Once you've made it to the grill, don't just leave it alone only to flip the burger once or twice. Research indicates that flipping frequently at a low heat hastens the time it takes to get the barbecued fare from the grill to the dinner table.

Exercise Portion Control—The thicker the meat, the longer it takes to cook thoroughly. Keeping the cuts small will fix this

Keep a Thermometer Handy—Judging whether or not meat is cooked thoroughly enough shouldn't be done just by examining its inner color. The U.S. Department of Health advises that chicken should be cooked to at least 165 degrees, hamburger to 160 degrees, pork to 150 degrees and hot dogs to at least 140 degrees. Steak should be cooked to 145 degrees for medium rare and 160 degrees for medium

Following these 10 tips will help provide you with yet another fun, safe and delicious season of barbecue bonanza.

The Truth About Cholesterol

Diet Solution ProgramI am going to let you in on something shocking. Cholesterol is not the major culprit in heart disease. I know this may be hard to believe after all we have heard about the dangers of high cholesterol from our doctors, and the media. But the truth is, it is not the cholesterol levels themselves or the cholesterol containing foods that are the culprits in heart disease, it is those foods and any other thing that causes inflammation in your body that is the major cause of heart disease (as well as diabetes and high blood pressure).

What is cholesterol and why do we need it?

Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance found among the lipids (fats) in the bloodstream and in all your body's cells. It's an important part of a healthy body because it's used to form cell membranes. Cholesterol also aids in the manufacture of bile (which helps digest fats), and is also important for the metabolism of fat soluble vitamins, including vitamins A, D, E and K. It is the major precursor for the synthesis of vitamin D and of the various steroid hormones (which include cortisol and aldosterone in the adrenal glands, and the sex hormones progesterone, the various estrogens, testosterone, and derivatives ).

How could something so good be so bad?

Cholesterol has been wrongly accused because upon inspection of the arteries of someone at risk for a heart attack, levels of cholesterol and plaque build up are very high. Cholesterol is actually being transported to tissues as part of an inflammatory response that is there to repair damage. It will only lodge itself onto the artery and cause plaque if the artery has become damaged. Inflammation in the artery is what causes this damage. In fact, it is now known that the coronary disease that causes heart attacks is now considered to be caused mostly from chronic inflammation.

To blame cholesterol for heart attacks would be the equivalent of blaming increased police security in a high crime area. It was not the police that caused the crime, they were just placed there in response to the crimes.

A more important question to ask ourselves, is how do we decrease the amount of inflammation in our bodies so that cholesterol will not bind to our arteries?

We must decrease all of those things that we do that cause inflammation and increase things that decrease inflammation. First and foremost we must stay away from foods that cause inflammation in our bodies. Any food that causes a fast rise in blood insulin levels will quickly cause inflammation in the body. These foods are sugar, white breads, most dairy products and almost all packaged and processed foods. What does this leave you with? Fresh, wholesome foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean animal proteins, nuts, and lots and lots of water. Also, taking in lots of omega-3 rich foods will dramatically decrease inflammation in the body (salmon, organic eggs, walnuts and sardines).

What about your cholesterol medication?

Some may be thinking, it is just easier to take a pill and not have to change what I am eating. But you may want to think twice considering the side effects of statins (cholesterol lowering drugs). The most common side effects reported are fatigued, headaches, nausea and the most common of them all, severe muscular pains and muscular degeneration. If you remember that cholesterol is essential for the formation of cell membranes, taking a drug that is drastically lowering cholesterol may be causing membrane damage in neural and muscle tissue. Most people on statins complain of neck, back or leg pain.

Millions of Americans are now on cholesterol lowering drugs, but the number of people suffering from heart attacks and heart disease is only increasing. Let's take a personal responsibility for our health and truly get to the root of the problem. Managing your diet and staying away from those foods that are causing an inflammatory response in your body is your first step to decreasing your chance of heart disease and heart attacks.

Watching TV can make you Fat

Watching TV can definitely make anyone fat.  No, not just because it is a sedentary activity, but because the information most commercials are giving is extremely misleading and really confusing, to say the least. Most people who know me, know I am not a TV watcher. Actually, I don't even have cable at home (A rare thing these days, I know.) Very often, I have no idea which show is the "latest craze" and which commercials are all the rave.

Last week the TV did catch my attention. I was at my parent's house and my mom had the TV on in the background. I was helping her cook and I nearly chopped my fingers off because I couldn't believe what I was hearing!

"Eat Cheerios to lower your cholesterol." "Three or more glasses of skim milk a day are a great way to lose weight". Then it got ugly "Splenda is just like sugar and is great for kids".

Diet Solution ProgramThe worst of them all (the one where my mother had to nearly restrain me from attacking the TV "There is nothing wrong with High Fructose Corn Syrup. It comes from corn and can actually be good for you." I nearly passed out.

I can see why people are totally confused about healthy eating. I can also see why obesity, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes are at an all time high in this country and in many others as well.

After I was done hyperventilating, I decided to first turn the TV off (because my heart just couldn't take anymore) and then write this newsletter to clear up a few misconceptions.

1. Cheerios biggest claim to fame is that eating them will help you lower your cholesterol. I am here to tell you that eating processed grains, especially in the form of cereal can actually make your cholesterol go up! The cholesterol study done showed how soluble fiber can help the body eliminate bad cholesterol from the body. Cheerios has 1 gram of soluble fiber per serving. Woop-dee-doo. Big deal. I can get 2 grams of soluble fiber from an apple, 3 grams from broccoli and carrots, and more than 4 grams from kidney beans. (Beat that Cheerio Man). Honestly, I don't think there are many foods in a box that are healthy at all. They have to be highly processed to stay shelf stable, many times loading them up with chemicals and fillers that are making us gain weight. My recommendation is ditch the cereal and pick up some wholesome natural foods like fruits and veggies. Natural grains like brown rice, millet and quinoa are 10x's better than any boxed cereal.

2. Milk does a body bad! That's really what the commercial should say. Ok, that is not entirely true. Conventional milk does a body bad. If you have read the Dairy chapter in The Diet Solution Program, you know my stance on milk: Organic is a must and Raw Milk is even better. If you didn't read my article on milk, you can read it here:

But don't go yet until you read #3.

3. Give Splenda to my children? Never! Splenda has not been out on the market long enough to show whether it is actually safe or not. Until then it is a public health experiment (No thanks, I don't' want to be your guinea pig). Being the organic chemistry nerd that I am, I know exactly how sugar is converted to Splenda. I will spare you the chem lesson but tell you that Splenda (or sucralose) is a synthetic compound stumbled upon in 1976 by scientists in Britain seeking a new pesticide formulation. Huh? Did you say pesticide? Yup. Many chemists believe this molecule resembles a pesticide much more than it resembles natural sugar. If this is still in debate, I will not be a test subject. I highly recommend you take yourself and your children out of this experiment as well. My tip: Stick to natural sweeteners like whole fruits, stevia and agave syrup and stay away from artificial sweeteners like Splenda, Equal and Sweet & Low.

I could probably go on and on. If I watched TV long enough (or if I actually purchased cable) I could probably find 10, 20, 100 more commercials that are giving us false info, all in the name of selling products.

Now, go shut the TV off will ya?

What Does a Healthy Body Look Like?

You probably know many people who have tried to lose weight, are currently dieting, or at least say that they would like to drop a few pounds…one of these statements might even describe you right now.

If someone wants to lose weight, we don't normally ask them why, we usually ask 'how much'. But the question that most people don't consider is why. Why do you want to lose weight? What do you think will happen when you get to your goal size?

For some people it might be a recommendation by their doctor and a matter of serious health problems. Any body image and aesthetic improvement would be secondary to the immediate health improvements.

But for most of the rest of us the health issues are not what drives us to want to lose weight. It is in fact the look of our body that we're interested in changing and the health benefits are secondary to the look.

At first glance this seems a bit superficial and even vain. But if you dig a little deeper you'll see that the look of your body is probably your best indicator of your health as well. After all we really only have two ways of telling if something is wrong with our bodies:

a)      It feels wrong – something hurts or we feel 'sick'

b)      It looks wrong – a rash, bump, scratch, swelling, a joint or bone out of place, or too much fat!

The point is that we only have these two pieces of information to go on to tell if there is something wrong with our bodies. Once we've seen or felt that there is a problem we can go to a doctor and get even more information that is not possible to see or feel.

For example a doctor can tell you that you're at a high risk for a heart attack even though this is not readily apparent in a mirror (although being overweight is a good indicator) and you cannot feel how close you are to having a heart attack…you only feel it once you finally have the heart attack…at which point it is too late to do anything about it.

The reason we have BMI charts and recommendations of a 'healthy' weight is so medical care providers can give you a visual cue that matches what their internal measurements like blood cholesterol and blood pressure are telling them about your relative risk of disease.

In other words, there is a specific body shape and look that also predicts healthiness.

Someone who is 100 pounds overweight almost assuredly has poor blood lipid profiles, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and many other problems associated with the extra weight and the high calorie intake required to get to that size.Perfect Body Measurements

Conversely someone who is at or close to their ideal bodyweight for their height most likely has much more favorable blood measurements and risk profile of many lifestyle related disorders.

In other words, they look healthy, and all measurements indicate that they are healthy. But there is a second level of health that cannot be measured, and that is emotional health and self image. For many of us this is linked to the look of our body.

It makes sense that wanting to 'look' good or look like you're in shape is actually no different than saying that you want to look healthy.

I may be in the minority here, but I do not agree with the new found rhetoric of 'being happy with your natural size' (it's ironic that this is only ever trumpeted by people who are overweight). This is a load of baloney and is just a sympathetic appeal to overweight people who cannot find the drive to eat less.

No matter how much you try to tell yourself you're happy with your current size, you will always know you are lying to yourself and this is not good for both your physiological health or your emotional health.

Living in denial isn't any more healthy than living overweight. Doing both just compounds the problems caused by each.

I think the most healthy way to approach weight loss is to admit to yourself that you want to lose weight for the purpose of improving the look of your body. And that this new thinner look will not only improve your physical health but also your emotional and psychological health. It is in fact a wholistic view of taking care of yourself.

There isn't much disputing the fact that a healthy looking body, is almost always a healthy body.

What No One Is Telling You About Calories In VS Calories Out

I'm going to share with you the most crucial weight loss strategy that will literally make or break your success. This is the number one fat loss tip I could ever give you. If you don't get this right, you can kiss your fat loss results goodbye. This is the one absolute requirement for weight loss, and it's something you've probably heard of before. However, there's one critical distinction about this familiar advice that you might not have considered – and this one thing makes all the difference in the world…

Let me quote Melvin Williams, PhD, professor emeritus of exercise science at Old Dominion University and author of the textbook Nutrition for Health, Fitness and Sport (McGraw Hill):

"Human energy systems are governed by the same laws of physics that rule all energy transformations. No substantial evidence is available to disprove the caloric theory. It is still the physical basis for bodyweight control."

There are a variety of diet programs and weight loss "gurus" who claim that calories don't count. They insist that if you eat certain foods or avoid certain foods, that's all you have to do to lose weight. Dozens, maybe hundreds of such diets exist, with certain "magic foods" put up on a pedestal or certain "evil fat-storing foods" banished into the forbidden foods zone.

Other weight loss "experts" invoke the insulin/carbohydrate hypothesis which claims that carbs drive insulin which drives body fat. That's akin to saying "Carbs are the reason for the obesity crisis today, not excess calories."

They are all mistaken.

Of course, there IS more to nutrition than calories in vs calories out. Food quality and nutrition content matters for good health. In addition, your food choices can affect your energy intake. We could even point the finger at an excess of refined starches and grains, sugar and soft drinks (carbs!) as major contributing factors to the surplus calories that lead to obesity.

However, that brings us back to excess calories as the pivotal point in the chain of causation, not carbs. A caloric deficit is a required condition for weight loss – even if you opt for the low carb approach – and that's where your focus should go – on the deficit.

Now, here's that critical distinction…

You've heard it said, "exercise more and eat less" a million times. However, saying "focus on the calorie deficit" is NOT the same thing. If you don't understand the difference, you could end up spinning your wheels for years.

You could exercise more, but if you compensate by eating more, you cancel your deficit.

You could eat less, but if you compensate by moving less, again you cancel your deficit.

This type of compensation can happen unconsciously, which leads to confusion about why you're not losing weight or why you're gaining. That often leads you to make excuses or blame the wrong thing… anything but the calories.

Therefore, "focus on the calorie deficit" more accurately states the most important key to weight loss than "exercise more and eat less." Make sure you understand this distinction and then follow this advice.

Last but not least, keep in mind that there are a lot of ways to establish a deficit and many of those ways are really dumb. Eating nothing but grapefruits, cabbage, twinkies… but in a deficit?… Dumb!

The bottom line is that a calorie deficit is required for fat loss, but once your deficit is established, the composition of your hypo-caloric diet DOES matter. That's why any good fat loss program starts with "calories in vs calories out" but doesn't stop there – you also need to look at protein, essential fats, macronutrients, micronutrients, food quality and how the diet you choose fits into your lifestyle. This is the pivotal strategy that my entire Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle system hinges upon.

Don't let the simplicity of this idea fool you. This is the #1 key to your successful weight loss now and in the future: Focus on the deficit!

What You Need to Know About Affiliate Marketing

Make Money OnlineWell you have finally done it. You have packed in the rubbish job and told your boss exactly what you think. You have taken the plunge and made the decision to begin your own affiliate marketing business. Affiliate marketing can be very lucrative. It provides people with the opportunity to work for themselves with very little risk to them. Those that are sales savvy, good at marketing and are not afraid of a little hard work can often do incredibly well with an affiliate marketing program.

Affiliate marketing sounds easy but you do need to exercise some caution. You want to avoid the affiliate marketing pitfalls that can ruin your business and worse, have you crawling on your hands and knees back to that boss that now knows how you truly feel.

People tend to get excited when they start a new venture. Unfortunately this excitement and eagerness can cause them to miss key things in their agreement. Whenever you sign up for an affiliate marketing program, you will be expected to sign an agreement. The terms and conditions of the agreement for both sides should be outlined. However, if they want to hide something this is where they will put it. It will either be in the small print, so get your magnifying glass out, or they will baffle you with legal language. Either way, you need to read and understand your agreement thoroughly to avoid disappointment and lost earnings.

If you are signing up for a commission based affiliate marketing program then you need to understand how the term revenue is defined. This is one of the biggest pitfalls of the contracts. They may advertise 5-10% commissions but it all fall on how they define revenue. Most affiliate marketing programs will calculate commission on the gross value of the sale. In other words, the amount of money the site will get at the completion of the sale. You may think that this sounds great. However, you need to read this part of the agreement very carfully. The amount of the sale almost always excludes credit card or debit card payment surcharges. They also are likely to exclude payment and delivery charges as well as any gift wrapping or other surcharges. What sounded like a nice commission is soon shrinking before your eyes. Ask these questions specifically before you sign an agreement.

Some affiliate programs are even stricter in their definition of revenue. Your commission may be based on the profit margin of the sold product. For example, if you help sell a book for 20 dollars but the company only makes 10 dollars profit, you'll receive a percentage of 10 dollars not 20. This can make a substantial difference in your earnings. Again, make sure you understand these things and ask specifically what your commission will be based upon. Read your agreement and look out for odd sounding clauses. These could come back to haunt you later.

Something else to beware of when you work on commission is returns. Many affiliate marketing companies only pay commission out on completed sales and then only if the customer keeps the item. If they return the items your commission could be cancelled. To really rub salt in the wounds, you could be billed for the outstanding commission if you do not have sufficient commission credit built up. Make sure you understand this before signing on. You cannot expect a company to pay you a commission on an item that is returned but make sure you understand their return policy. Find out your rights in this situation.

Affiliate marketing can be a great way to earn money. If you have good sales and marketing skills then it can give you the opportunity to out them to good use. You'll be able to work for yourself and not someone who undervalues and does not appreciate them. One needs to consider affiliate marketing carefully. Make sure you understand your agreement and exactly what you will be paid for. You don't want to have to go crawling back to your boss begging for your old job back.

Your C-Section Incision – Look Out For These 4 Warning Signs of Potential Problems Ahead

Your C-section incision needs to be monitored regularly for the first few weeks, watching for any changes in its appearance.

There are some changes and conditions that are normal to see with your C-section incision, but other differences that could be signs of potential problems ahead. It is common to feel a large ridge or lump under the scar which is scar tissue forming underneath, this should reduce over time.

Another common concern many moms notice is the area often feels slightly numb and tight. These are all normal responses to the effects of the operation and should all gradually become less noticeable over the following weeks.

It is important to be very vigilant over your C-section incision scar because if it becomes infected, the healing process can take many weeks longer.

You should always call your doctor or midwife immediately if you notice any of the following: -

#1 Redness - the edges of a healing incision will normally appear slightly red, this is a natural reaction to the healing process. If the redness increases or starts to spread more than half an inch from around the wound then this could be a sign of something a little more sinister and you should contact your doctor or health advisor.

#2 Heat or excessive warmth on or around the wound. If your wound feels particularly hot compared to previous sensations and if this is accompanied by new pain or discomfort, then it be worth having it looked at.

#3 Any change or unusual appearance of the incision. Your C-section incision should gradually become less inflamed, smoother in appearance, less painful and more comfortable over the following weeks. In you notice any changes other than improvements, monitor them closely and if they continue or deteriorate any further then speak to your doctor.

#4 Any puss in the incision. If you suddenly notice a pussy discharge from your C-section incision after having a clean wound previously, or if the area starts to get mildly tender or painful, this could be a sign that it isn't knitting together very well and again you need to monitor the area closely and speak to your doctor if it continues for more than 24 – 48 hours.

If your C-section incision pulls apart and starts bleeding, apply an antibiotic cream, to keep any bacteria away from the wound. Do not apply any creams other than an antibiotic cream until your incision has completely healed. If you notice any bleeding, applying slight pressure to the wound may help to stop this. If the wound keeps bleeding after you apply pressure, call your doctor.

It important to stay vigilant and not obsessive over your C-section incision because any problems spotted early can reduce their severity over the long term. Don't panic over the slightest change, just monitor it and if you see further deterioration then contact your doctor or health care advisor.

Working with Layers

Photoshop offers very powerful layer capabilities, which can cause confusion. It is also quite common to find many who fail to use layer functions that would help to speed their work.

The basic operation of a raster program depends on a selected layer. You do not have to build multiple layers, but you do need at least one layer. Pasting an item or creating text in Photoshop automatically creates a new layer. For any other operation, you will have to manually add a layer before drawing. If you do not add a layer, the object will be drawn on the currently selected layer and drawn objects will merge together automatically.

Create a new layer
There are several ways to create a new layer. Select Layer>New>Layer from the Main Menu or use SHIFT+CTRL (Command) + L. I find I most often use the Layers palette for layers operations. With the Layer tab active, click on the side arrow to activate the pop out menu. Click on New Layer. The New Layer window will appear. I advise that you type in a name for your layer, since working with even a few layers will become confusing. Choose a name that you will be able to identify, even if you return to the document months later. Click OK and your new layer will appear immediately above the layer that was selected when you created the new layer.

You can also duplicate a layer, which will copy the selected area and create a new layer to place the copy. Select the layer you wish to copy. Activate the side pop out menu and choose Duplicate Layer. Windows users can also right click on a layer and choose Duplicate Layer from the flyout menu. You will be presented with the Layers Option window, and can rename the copied layer from the Photoshop default, which is the name of the current layer with "copy" added.

When the copy is created, it is placed immediately on top of the original layer, which makes it seem as if nothing has happened. Use the Move tool to move the layer and you will see the new layer as well as the original layer.
Create a layer from a selection
You may wish to copy only a portion of a layer, or perhaps you would prefer that one area of a layer was on its own layer. You can copy or cut any selection to a new layer easily. Activate the layer (click on it) that contains the information you wish to duplicate or move to a new layer and select the area you would like to work with. Choose Layer>New>Layer via Copy or Layer via Cut from the main menu. For a quicker method, right click (Windows) or Command click (Mac) on the layer containing the selected area, and choose the Layer via Copy or Layer via Cut from the flyout menu. The selected area will be duplicated to a new layer if you chose to copy, or moved if you chose the cut option.

I often use the layer via copy or duplicate layer functions when creating navigation elements. Careful naming as you create repeating elements is essential for efficient production.
Rename a layer
If you do not name a layer as you create it, or if you are not presented with the choice to assign a name to a layer, you can easily rename any layer. Double click on the layer in the Layers palette and type a new name into the Name area of the Layer Options window. This window is also available through a right click (Command click) or the side flyout menu.

Change Layer Position
Solid areas in layers will hide the layers below in the stacking order. Quite often, you will find that you need to change the order of the layers. This is a very simple procedure in Photoshop. Simply click and drag the layer to the position you desire. As you are dragging, a clenched hand will appear. Release the mouse when the layer is in the position you require.

Share layers between documents
You can also drag a layer from one Photoshop document to another. Have both documents open – the one containing the layer you wish to copy, and the document that will receive the layer. Click and drag the layer from the original document to the document where you would like to add the layer. The layer will appear in the new document exactly as it was in the original document, but it will also remain in the original location.

How To Turn Super Sizing, Dietary Displacement and Portion Distortion To Your Advantage!

Ever since the independent film, Super Size Me was released, research on the relationship between increasing obesity and increasing portion sizes has skyrocketed and the results have been virtually unanimous.

There have been numerous well-designed studies published just in the last several years which confirmed exactly what we suspected (and much of what the movie suggested):

* Portion sizes have increased in restaurants and fast food venues on a major scale over the last several decades

* We self-serve ourselves larger portions in the home than we used to

* When more food is put in front of us, we almost always eat more

* most people underestimate how many calories they are eating

* All of these factors have contributed to the growing obesity problem and the related health problems that come along with it

The obvious solution would seem to be to decrease portion sizes across the board, and indeed awareness of and control over portion sizes in general is important.

However, research has demonstrated that perhaps an even better solution is to keep the portion sizes generous, but decrease the energy density (calories per unit of volume) in the foods you put on your plate.

Several studies revealed that eating more low calorie density foods, especially green vegetables, salad vegetables and other fibrous carbs, as well as very lean proteins, maintains a feeling of fullness while reducing energy intake.

In other words, large portions of highly nutritious, low calorie foods displaced the less nutritious, calorie-dense foods! Most people allow the bad foods to push out the good foods, but you can actually do the same in reverse!

In a study published in the Journal of The American Dietetic Association, researchers fed one group a compulsory first course salad which was kept low in energy density by using very low calorie dressing with no high calorie toppings no bacon, cheese or croutons, etc).

After the salad, the subjects were allowed to eat as much pasta as they wanted.

A second group was also allowed to eat as much pasta as they wanted but was not given a compulsory salad to eat beforehand.

The results: As you might guess, eating a low energy density first course enhanced satiety (fullness) and reduced the overall amount of calories that were eaten during the whole meal.

Since the research has repeatedly discovered that almost everyone will eat more when served larger portions from a larger plate or container, and there is obviously a serious issue of "portion distortion" occurring, another group of scientists and psychologists decided to test this even further by providing larger plates or containers of low energy density, high nutrient density foods before the main course and or in between meals.

When more of the low energy density foods were made available first, the subjects ate even more of these healthy foods, which filled them up even more and decreased the amount of high calorie density foods eaten in the main course.

Reporting their findings in the Journal of Nutrition Education And Behavior, the researchers said that there is a silver lining to all the negative findings about super sized portions and overeating that we have discoverd inrecent years:

That is, although we eat more when more is put in front of us, We can use this phenomenon in reverse by serving large plates, bowls or containers of healthy, low energy density foods like fruits, salads and raw vegetables as snacks and first courses.

"While a small bowl of raw carrots might make for a good afternoon snack", said one of the researchers, "a large bowl might even be better."
